Multi-Purpose Pilates Tower Trainer

Lockdown Starts Nov. 12, 2020

Well, I guess no one is surprised that we are being locked down for a second time and we are all ready to do our part.
All in-person classes and appointments, except for the private appointments with the Physios (Physio can continue) will cease until further notice by the Provincial government starting tomorrow, Thursday November 12th.

Thankfully, our Zoom classes will give you an opportunity to continue with your Pilates practice from home in the meantime. If you do not own a Zoom pass at the moment, they are available in 5-packs ($78.75 GST incl) or in 10-packs ($157.50 GST incl)

If you do not see the class you want at a time you want, email me back and we will set something up to match your needs and goals. If you want to try a new class and need the props, let us know and we will get the prop to you, curbside delivery i.e MELT rollers, stability balls, flexbands

As well, we are renting out the Stability chairs and we are also selling the Tower Trainers we have left and there are Zoom classes for those too. It is going to be a long winter!

If you are not already on zoom, it is a free download on the device you want to use and I prefer laptop or tablet. Then, make sure you sign up in the class you want at least 30 min before class so the instructor sees your email to send the Zoom link to. When the email comes, make sure you click on it and follow the easy instructions it prompts. Make sure your video is on and that is an easy prompt too.

Your current in-person class pass will not expire so you can resume your classes once we re-open. Thanks for your understanding.

Take care. Be well.

intenSATI practice for November 2020

Welcome to your November intenSati series!

I am teaching intenSATI every Tuesday 6-7 pm in-person at my Roblin location inside the The Yoga Barre and on ZOOM every Thursday 11 am.

“Inten” is from intention and “sati” is the Pali word for mindfulness. It is a fun movement class, using some cardio, yoga, stretches and meditation, all with affirmations and fun music. You can even do it sitting in a chair.

This month’s series is about using the power of our thoughts and words to shape the life we want to live by flipping the script from fear to faith, from whining to wisdom, from worry to wisdom. I think the word “faith” can be a trigger word, as can the word “spiritual”, so you are welcome to add religious values to those meanings if it serves you. Faith is meant here as trusting your deepest connection to yourself and faith about the goodness of our world, about it all working out, not by chance but by choice!

Tony Robbins says, “it’s not your capacity, but your state, that determines your success” and it’s the reminder that the future we are imagining is giving us our state today. So, if we want a more prosperous, confident, alive state, we must first examine the language we are using in both our thoughts and our words.

Language shapes our life and we want to learn to flip the script from fear to faith. And that starts by choosing faith, affirming faith and taking actions from a faith-inspired state.

In this month’s intenSati, you’ll find a fun, cardio series that will help you reframe your challenges so that you can move from fear to faith. You’ll also find some challenging add-on’s to take your class to the next level, allowing you to find your edge. Additionally, there’s a lower body stretching sequence and closing meditation that will help seal all of this month’s work in.

Let’s exercise our power this month to choose what we think, say and do so that we can align with our purpose and passion. Join me to dance your crazies out and feel your happy inside! Text to register 204.999.9984.

ELDOA CLASSES every Tuesday 5-6 pm Nov 3-24, 2020 @ our Roblin location

ELDOA is a revolutionary stretching and strengthening technique for the spine and joints of the body. These exercises create space between every level of your spine, your hips and shoulders, to alleviate back pain and improve your overall posture.

Created by world-renowned Osteopath, Guy VOYER, DO, who founded the Montreal School of Osteopathy, the ELDOAs were created to target every level of your spine to create space and normalize the tension around each vertebrae. The result is postural normalization and a renewed strength and balance throughout your body.

The Benefits of ELDOA

ELDOA connects your body, mind and spirit through a series of techniques designed to have a calming effect on the nervous system.

When we stretch the fascia that surrounds all the muscles, organs and nerves in our body restrictions are freed and a calm, balanced feeling takes over. You feel revitalized with more energy, and your body feels aligned with a cleansing feeling in your deep body tissue.

You will find that this profound experience is a way of life – and not just an exercise method. Perhaps you’ll see it as meditation for your spine (especially if you can’t sit still). Within the action of an ELDOA you will find stillness – it’s profound and gets into every fibre in your body.

This month, the theme is Hacking into your old Habits. ELDOA is a profound stretching habit that will save you unnecessary pain, aches and discomfort so you enjoy your movement and performance, be it sitting at a desk, yoga or skiiing. An ELDOA stretching routine reduces the negative effects of the postural bad habits we do to our bodies.

Happy International Pilates Day

Happy International Pilates Day! Pilates saved my life. We have been told so many times about its many exercise benefits.Did you know that Pilates is so powerful a technique that Pilates is an umbrella treatment under Physiotherapy in today’s current medical and insurance model. Pilates is the first Physiotherapy!

But, I was unemployed with no benefits and no extra money to go to any therapist of any kind when my husband died leaving me with a 2 year old son and pregnant with our second son (whom he never met). I needed more than stretching and calming. I needed reconnection and rebalance with my nervous systems (yes, you have two “different operational” ones). From my traumatic experience, stress makes our joints go slack. Stressful thoughts and feelings pulls the water out of our cells and organs. Stress makes us destabilize to the left side only (spiral line). If you feel tight or “stronger” on your right side it is only because it is trying to pull you back into alignment when you spiral to the left.

When I was grieving and living like the walking dead, I felt my joints stay slack and ache and hurt constantly, thus, no true inner stability and metaphorically, no standing tall, no getting up off my knees and no moving forward. My inside head, the surface of my brain, itched. I could not breath. I could not see straight. The tightness in my chest would not go away. This was more than just grief. I know now that it was my fascia stiffening, my brainstem and cells dehydrating and my nervous system not able to find clear consistent signals to my centre of gravity and joints, like a GPS. But back then, yoga and stretching was just making my joints more overstretched and there was no corresponding rebalance or reconnection because the neuro-muscular-skeletal re-patterning piece was missing. So, I started Pilates on my living room floor at 2 am when I could not sleep. The 100 kick-started my diaphragm. I taught myself some Pilates at home because it also made me think and feel and sense. It was active cognitive behaviour therapy in my body. I got stronger, physically and figuratively.

Pilates originally called his work Contrology and developed not just physiotherapy and manual therapy but a powerful ideology with pressurization of the joints system which is the key to all health…pressure..constantly adjusting, rebalancing and recalibrating pressure through the neuro-fascial system.

Thanks to Joseph Pilates for his everlasting gift. He was an innovator, inspiration and early influencer of integrative health that also has so many health economics efficiencies, especially in these challenging times. Be your own best therapist and return to trusting your own body!
